Meet the Candidates: Joshua Fitterman

Joshua Fitterman, History

Desired position in Student Government:

YSU Secretary

Bio:

My name is Josh Fitterman. I went to Yeshivah of Flatbush for High School after having become religious at the age of 12. I then had the wonderful opportunity to study in Reishit Yerushalyim and then to come back and continue my studies at Yeshiva University.

Why are you running for this position on student council?

Change. That one word is what inspired me to run for this position. I believe in this institution, but I also recognize the flaws and challenges we students face. I always believe in helping others, and having read the recent Commentator editorial about the need for serious candidates, I knew I had to run. I know that being a part of the Yeshiva Student Union would give me the chance to create a more enjoyable experience for all of my friends and fellow students. I do not see this as an easy job, but I do see what we can achieve, together.

What experience do you bring to this position?

When I first arrived on campus I looked around and asked what could I be a part of, and baruch Hashem I was able to be a part of two amazing clubs this past year, the Yeshiva University Political Awareness Club and Yeshiva College Democrats. As a part of both I was able to help create and organize amazing events, such as the YUPAC lobbying mission to Washington. I had the pleasure to participate in this fantastic trip with my YU peers. As YSU secretary, I promise to bring all of the organizational and leadership skills I gained in these major planning events to serve you. I will not make false promises. I make goals.

What, if any, other leadership commitments are you taking on next year?

Yeshiva University Political Awareness Club, cadre. Yeshiva College Democrats, event coordinator

How many credits do you plan on taking next semester?
15

At YU, I…

I live in a YU dorm, I stay in Washington Heights at least two shabbatot a month, I have not faced any disciplinary action from Yeshiva University, I do not have a criminal record nor have I been arrested

Why should students vote for you over any other candidate?

It is simple: I have the skills, the passion, and the vision that our university needs.
