Meet the Candidates: Eli Lehman
Eli Lehman
Desired position in Student Government
Junior Class President
Bio:
Hello. My name is Eli Lehman and I am from Monsey, NY (really Wesley Hills, but everyone just says Monsey) where I went to the Adolf Schreiber Hebrew Academy of Rockland (ASHAR) for Elementary and Middle School. Afterwards, I attended the Torah Academy of Bergen County (TABC) for High School. Last year, I attended Yeshivat Lev HaTorah and I am currently in my second semester here in YU.
Why are you running for this position on student council?
There are many different reasons as to why I am running for student council. One of the main reasons is try to figure out more ways to make the students more involved in the decisions that are made. I also believe that there should be a stronger student voice in the many different organizations and student unions here on campus. As president of the junior class, I will try my best to make sure all students needs are addressed properly.
What experience do you bring to this position?
I went to high school in Teaneck, NJ. Considering the fact I live in Monsey, NY, I witnessed many difficulties that came up with the out-of-town students. As an out-of-town student myself, I felt the need to address those issues. I advocated for many accommodations for the out-of-towners. I was then appointed by TABC's Dean of Student Life to become the Dean of Out-of-Town Student Life. Even though it was not a serious position, I was the main advocate for many much needed accommodations, which then went to effect and continues to remain in effect to this very day. I hope to bring that experience I gained in TABC to YU when I become president to make sure the needs of every student are taken care of.
What, if any, other leadership commitments are you taking on next year?
I will not be taking on any other leadership commitments so that I can give my 100% to being the best president that we will ever have.
How many credits do you plan on taking next semester?
14-17
At YU, I...
I live in a YU dorm, I eat at least half of my meals in the caf, I have not faced any disciplinary action from Yeshiva University, I do not have a criminal record nor have I been arrested
Why should students vote for you over any other candidate?
I genuinely care about every single person. I will make sure I best represent every student in the best way I possibly can.
