Dorm Gourmet

When Dorm Gourmet premiered last semester, it cited the Cornell University study in which researchers found that first-year-on-campus students gain an average of half a pound per week. This is about 11 times more weight than the average 17- or 18-year-old will gain, and nearly 20 times more than the average weight gain-rate among adults. Not much has changed since then. College students are still fat and the freshman fifteen is now seen as the bare minimum. But pursuing a Master’s needn’t make us fatter. By educating ourselves on healthy eating, we will be able to learn how to get off the derekh [path] to a heart attack.

In Dorm Gourmet, we will learn to take our health into our own hands by taking it into our dorm rooms. Each column will feature simple, healthy recipes that you will be able to make in your dorm room and on a student’s budget. In this issue, we will focus on man food, the infamous grub that is often the cause of high cholesterol and low self-esteem. Now that the Commie is an equal-opportunity paper, man food can be healthy too. Happy snacking!
