Macs Lose to Farmingdale State in Skyline Championship

The Yeshiva University Maccabees’ season has come to an end with a defeat to Farmingdale State in the Skyline championship Sunday. 

The game, which had a final score of 80-68, was the Macs’ first Skyline championship appearance since the departure of Ryan Turrell (YC ‘22) and came after a decisive semi-final victory in which YU beat Manhattanville 80-68 Thursday. Farmingdale State had won their semi-final game against Sarah Lawrence College with a final score of 81-66.

“The Macs fought hard, but Farmingdale came out strong and took control early,” Marvin Azrak (YC ‘26), editor in chief of MacsLive, told The Commentator. “Despite their efforts to rally back, the Macs struggled to find a consistent rhythm and couldn't capitalize on key opportunities.”

YU's offensive struggles were evident in their stats, with a field goal percentage of 38.8% and a 6-26 performance from beyond the three point line. “Yeshiva couldn't contain Farmingdale's dominance in the paint,” Azrak continued, referring to the defense taking place in close vicinity to the basket which proved important in previous games, including the Macs’ semi-final match against Manhattanville.

Several players on the Rams had strong performances, with senior Corey Powel delivering a 19-point performance. Nick Hurowitz also made a significant impact, securing a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Or Sundjyvsky (SSSB ‘25) led the Macs scoring 22 points, followed by Zevi Samet (YC ‘26) and Max Zakheim (SSSB ‘25), both with 12 points.

Despite the disappointment of falling short in the finals, Azrak pointed out that this season serves as a pivotal stepping stone for the team. 

“The Macs should hold their heads high despite how the season ended. They showed resilience and growth as a team. They fought through key injuries, overcame their first four-game conference losing streak in a decade, and managed to win the Gold Division. What we saw over those two playoff games last week was a glimpse of what this team can do when completely healthy.”
