Dr. Ralph Bunche of the United Nations, Mayor Impellitteri, Borough President James J. Lyons and Harold Riegelman, Republican candidate for Mayor, participated in the program that followed. A thousand persons crowded the garage of the unfinished Bronx Muncipal Hospital Center for the speeches.
Speakers at last night’s dinner included Nelson Rockefeller, Under Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, George Alpert, president of the Board of Trustees of Brandeis, Dr. Belkin, Dr. Marcus D. Kogel, newly appointed dean of the Medical College and Judge Harry E. Kalodner, of the Circuit Court of Appeals.
Dr. Belkin described the event as “a dream come true” and said the role of the College would be “to render service for the betterment of mankind in this age of destruction.”
