Kohn Selected as Editor-in-Chief for Vol. 92; Koslowe to be Managing Editor

Daniel Kohn (SSSB ‘27) has been selected as editor-in-chief of The Commentator for its 92nd volume, succeeding Hadassah Reich (SCW ‘26). Elza Koslowe (SCW ‘27) will serve as managing editor.

Kohn, an incoming senior majoring in finance, is from Vienna, Austria. He attended Yeshiva University High School for Boys (YUHSB) and Yeshivat Har Etzion (“The Gush”) before enrolling at YU. He is The Commentator’s current senior news editor and previously served as a staff writer and junior news editor.

“I’m very excited to take on this responsibility,” Kohn said. “The Commentator is one of Yeshiva University’s oldest institutions, and one that I joined in my first week at YU. I kept up with The Commentator before I was even a student, as my older sister was managing editor in 2021. I’d like to thank Rikki Zagelbaum, my sister Elisheva, Hadassah Reich and Sruli Friedman for an incredible journey.”

Zagelbaum (SCW ‘26), The Commentator’s outgoing managing editor, is confident in Kohn as editor-in-chief.

“Since joining The Commentator as a staff writer, then rising to junior news editor and now senior news editor, Daniel has brought an unmistakable energy and drive to the paper,” she said. “I’ve loved working with him on the news section. He is talented, hardworking, and deeply committed. I have no doubt he will lead the paper with strength as editor-in-chief, and I’m so excited to see where he takes it!”

Koslowe, also an incoming senior, is from Bergenfield, New Jersey, and is majoring in computational mathematics. She is currently senior features editor and previously served as a staff writer. She attended Yeshivat Frisch for high school, where she served as editor-in-chief of the weekly Be’er Shavua journal, and Migdal Oz for seminary. She is the sister of vol. 84 Editor-in-Chief Benjamin Koslowe (YC ‘19) and the granddaughter of vol. 31 Editor-in-Chief Neil Koslowe (YC ‘66). Elza Koslowe's brother, Hillel, is married to Daniel Kohn’s sister, Elisheva Kohn-Koslowe.

“The Commentator is both a time capsule and a living organism, one that depends on current students to sustain and pass it on to the next generation,” Koslowe said. “By reporting rigorously on campus news, providing a space for student opinions and highlighting untold stories, the paper offers the wider YU community a window into student life. I feel incredibly fortunate to take on the managing editor role and help carry that forward.”

Reich told The Commentator that she is excited for Kohn and Koslowe to assume their new roles.

“It has been a pleasure to work with both Daniel and Elza this past year,” she said. “I am proud of how much they have grown as writers and editors. Their journalistic eye and genuine love for this paper will serve them well in leading the 92nd edition, and I cannot wait to see all that they are sure to achieve.”

Daniel Brauner (YC ‘27) will succeed Kohn as senior news editor, and Elizabeth Kohl (SCW ‘28) will succeed Koslowe as senior features editor.
