"In The Heights: Your Guide to the Basics" is a great idea.

You might want to add:

Post Office--there is one in the basement of Belfer 

Pharmacy--a young couple who came from Russia as children just opened DRUG WOR/X at 4197 Broadway, 2 doors below 178th St.--shomer Shabbat--a discount for YU students

Liquor store--Heights Wines & Spirits--an entire wall of kosher wines offers an amazing selection--4474 Broadway, above 188th--if you want to send wine to your host/ess, he delivers:  646.726.4102; the owner wants to serve the community

Bakery--Gruenebaum's, 810 West 187 St. (the sign says "Gideon's")--walk down 187th until you see a tall flight of stairs (130 steps)--walk up and you're at Ft. Washington and 187th; go a half-block more

Tailor--Mr. and Mrs. Saketos are a husband-wife team who do excellent alterations and repairs--212.740.7726.  Call ahead.  They're at 395 Ft. Washington Ave., Apt.31.
