Meet the Candidates: Joseph Lipton

Joseph (Yossi) Lipton, Economics

Desired position in Student Government:

SOY Treasurer

Bio:

My name is Yossi Lipton, I'm from Toronto, and i'm in my second year at YU. I am majoring in economics and hoping to apply to medical school. I love sports and am a member of the championship winning cross country and volleyball teams. I enjoy ice cream more than the average person, and unfortunately have never made it all the way through sefiras Haomer.

Why are you running for this position on student council?

Without the Yeshiva, Yeshiva University is not distinguishable from the 100's of other universities in the country. Over the course of my two years here, I've noticed that many students feel overwhelmed by the workload and are beginning to view the Yeshiva and learning as a burden. I hope to help renew the connection that YU students feel towards the Yeshiva.

What experience do you bring to this position?

Honestly, I do not bring any experience to this position, but i pride myself in my ability to identify and communicate with the many different types of students who attend YU, which I believe will help me tremendously while working for SOY.

What, if any, other leadership commitments are you taking on next year?

I am not currently taking on any other leadership commitments.

How many credits do you plan on taking next semester?

15

At YU, I...

I live in a YU dorm, I eat at least half of my meals in the caf, I stay in Washington Heights at least two shabbatot a month, I have not faced any disciplinary action from Yeshiva University, I do not have a criminal record nor have I been arrested

Why should students vote for you over any other candidate?
