Dorm Gourmet: Elluluyah! Recipes for a Sweet New Year

We are taught that teshuva, tefilla and tzedakah (repentance, prayer, and charity) are the ingredients for setting our year off right. However, to truly cleanse ourselves of our impurities ,we need to start from  the inside; the inside of the stomach. Holiday dishes are often full of sinful fats and much too many calories to burn off during those all cheits. The only true way to earn forgiveness for our poor diets is to start the year off on a healthy foot. Here are a some healthy takes on some fall holiday classics.

Apples and Honey Teashuva

1 8-oz. tub of Philadelphia whipped cream cheese
½ can of pumpkin pie mix  (can be found at most health food stores)
3 tbsp. light brown sugar
1 tsp. honey
1 tsp. vanilla extract
A pinch of cinnamon
Your favorite bagel (if you want to stay on the lighter side, you can use bagel thins or Weight Watchers brand bagels)

1. Mix all ingredients together, save for the bagel, in a small bowl. Mix well.
2. Let chill in the fridge for at least a half an hour.
3. Spread on bagel of your choice.

This can be made up to a week in advance and left in the fridge.
